Editorial Internships at Curve magazine

Curve magazine, the best-selling lesbian magazine in the United States, has openings for two print interns and one web intern on our editorial team.

We’re looking for a few good candidates committed to queer, lesbian or feminist publishing and interested in the lesbian community in general. Applicants should be strong writers with clips showing experience, meticulous fact-checkers willing to spend the time and get it right and strong proofreaders with knowledge of AP or Chicago style and an eye for detail.

Print Interns:
Each intern will have a balance of editorial administration (tracking down materials, talking with publicists, following up on emails, meetings, trafficking articles, etc) and writing assignments. It’s crucial that you be able to work independently as well as juggle a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

Web Interns:

You will be expected to pitch and write daily short blog posts as well as longer pieces on topics ranging from lesbian entertainment and pop culture to health and politics. You should know basic HTML, and experience with Blogsmith or WordPress is preferred.

Our interns serve all the functions of an editorial assistant and are listed that way on our masthead. Our former editorial interns are now editors at several different publications (New York Post, Nerve, Curve, etc.), professors or just better rounded coffee jockeys. (We’re only kidding about the coffee.)

The position is unpaid (except for our undying devotion, a great plug on your resume and all-you-can request references). We require a four-month commitment at 20 hours a week, though we are somewhat flexible about scheduling.

Please email your resume, clips and a cover letter telling us why you should be considered for a spot at Curve to Rachel Beebe, associateeditor@curvemag.com
