Space Age Art at Yerba Buena Center, Sustainable Fashion and Corgi Couture

Another week full of fun events in the Bay Area including a behind the scenes look at the man who invented Tetris, an extra-terrestrial show at YBCA, a new yarn exhibition in Berkeley, a panel on sustainable fashion and a fun-filled dog show. Check out our favorites below!

Monday

Book Launch | The Games People Play
Time: 7:30pm
Cost: Free

Admit it, you have a love-hate relationship with the famous game, Tetris, too. Box Brown, New York Times Bestseller author and Ignatz Award-winning cartoonist, illustrator and comic publisher, discusses his new book, Tetris: The Games People Play and Alexy Pajitnov, the creator behind the game, the war among developers to gain access to the game, and the impact it had on culture around the world.

Tuesday

Eric Zammitt | RADIATION
Cost: Free
Time: 10:30am – 5:30pm

Los Angeles artist Eric Zammitt will showcase his newest works during the month of October at Scott Richards Contemporary Art. Through an extensive process of rhythmic pattern construction, segmentation and reconstruction, Zammitt uses vibrant acrylic plastic pieces to create kaleidoscope-typed pieces that exude energy. Zammitt’s work has been display all around the United States as well as Korea and Japan.

Wednesday

Small Batch Manufacturing & On Demand Sourcing
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Cost: $20

What is the future of fashion manufacturing for small fashion businesses? How can technology play a part in it? Where does small batch manufacturing fit into it all? Join the discussion hosted by FiSF and PeopleWearSF with a panel of industry experts including Steffen Kuehr, CEO of TekTailor, and Marissa Lucero, My Fashion Design Kit.

Thursday

Tom Sachs Space Program: Europa
Time: 11:00am – 6:00pm
Cost: $8-$10

Launch into a jam-packed Thursday at YCBA with a fly-by of the Tom Sachs exhibition. Sachs and his team of astronauts have taken over most of YBCA’s galleries and public spaces in their quest to find extraterrestrial life. View everything from the Apollo-era Landing Excursion Module (LEM) to Sach’s tools in Logjam Café, a site-specific installation. Hang around until 5:00pm for a Third Thursday celebration with local dance artist Jesse Hewit. (We’re secretly hoping for a moonwalk!)

Yarn as Paint
Time: 11:00am – 9:00pm
Cost: $10 with Student ID ; $12 General Admission

Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive proudly boasts the second work in its Art Wall Series with a  piece by East Bay artist Terri Friedman. Friedman, embracing weaving as an extension of her painting exploration, hopes her experimentation with yarn will evoke emotion in the viewer, redefine landscapes and expand material limits within borrowed traditions.

Corgi-Con Fall Edition

Fall, Ocean Beach and charity events all sound great, but add 800+ people and Corgis galore and you get the irresistible Corgi-Con Fall edition 2016! Season Finale | Off the Grid Presidio Picnic

Over 30 local vendors gather at the Main Parade Ground Lawn in the Presidio to say goodbye to another season of Off The Grid Presidio Picnic. Bring a cozy blanket, stake out a spot to marvel at the stunning Bay view, and enjoy food from one (or three, we won’t judge) food truck. The season finale will be sure to leave you anticipating Off the Grid 2017.
