On Sunday, School of Fashion instructor Rob Curry donated a coat (that he made) to a fundraiser organized by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of guys who use drag and Catholic imagery to bring awareness to social conflict and sexual tolerance.

Held at Wild Side West, the event raised funds for breast cancer and Rob’s coat was auctioned off for $500. A total of $3500 was raised at the event - and Rob couldn’t be any more excited about his coat and the socially conscious drag nuns.

“I’ve gotten to know (the Sisters) quite well,” says Rob, “and I love them all!”

Forbes.com did a well-produced video that focused on the designers who recently showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and put a spotlight on the School of Fashion’s renowned reputation.
Take a look:
Great job Steven and Bethany for being spokespeople for the school! And kudos to Simon as well!

The designers were backstage hours before the show and they needed to make every single detail of their garments presentable. They stitched, lint-brushed, snipped stray threads and, of course, there was lots of pressing and steaming going on!

Considering it was a bit chilly outside, the steamy warmth that filled up the room wasn’t uninvited.

It’s the day before the show. Our designers are showing tomorrow in the biggest tent at Bryant Park in front of hundreds of people including some of the most major industry professionals in the fashion business.
No pressure.
Luckily, design instructor, Gonbee Tanaka was there to give some guidance and calm the stress of our designers as they worked today - and it never hurts to have that extra input from your instructors!

The School of Fashion would like to welcome Russell Clower, the new Assistant Director of Visual Merchandising.
One of Russell’s windows for Wilkes Bashford
At first, I misread the announcement and I thought it said Russell Crowe will be the new Assistant Director of Visual Merchandising. I thought, “Wow. That’s odd. What is he doing here?” Then I read it again and it made more sense.
With a background in illustration, Russell has an extensive experience of visual merchandising - or as he likes to call it “The Theatre of Presentation.” From art direction to event production to brand imaging to advertising, Mr. Clower is definitely going to bring a lot to the School of Fashion. He has worked for the San Francisco-based upscale retailer Wilkes Bashford as the creative director and the director of special events. He has also done consulting work with Ralph Lauren POLO and was the visual merchandising manager for Bebe.
