After nearly two years of living and working in New York, Mun-Soo Kwon, a 2007 BFA menswear design graduate, got a sweet gig with acclaimed menswear designer, Andrew Buckler. Needless to say, he is doing pretty good for himself…and lucky for us, we got to attend the presentation of the S/S 2010 collection and we were more than happy to attend.
I was digging through the bag I usually take with me to Sara’s trying to clean the junk out, and I stumbled across a little something from earlier in the summer:
It was a fortune from a cookie I broke open when we eating Chinese at the studio one night. I chuckled as I thought of the irony of writing “The Alyssa Diaries.” I never would have guess writing was in the cards for me…

Emily Melville, Fashion Design, and Ivanka Georgieva, Textile Design – Emily was born in Connecticut and raised in California and Virginia. She developed her silhouettes by draping wool fabric on a dress form to experiment three-dimensionally and used creative cutting techniques to construct unconventional shapes. Ivanka combined screen-print, dye, iron, and pigment discharge techniques to recreate the look of landscape paintings inspired by the work of artist Leslie Shows. Ivanka was born and raised in Pernik, Bulgaria.
I-Shan Liou, Fashion and Knitwear Design, and Myoung Hee Kim, Textile Design – I-Shan was born and raised in Changhua, Taiwan and was inspired by the mood of Sam Francis’ paintings of earth, water, air and fire for her silhouette, color story and irreverent use of soft luxurious angora yarn. Myoung Hee hand painted her bright designs onto paper; heat transferred them onto chiffon and then bonded to I-Shan’s knitted fabrics. She also hand painted rice paper and bonded the paper to the knits. Myoung Hee was born in Seoul, South Korea where she spent most of her childhood before moving to British Columbia, Canada.
Scott Ian McFarland, Fashion and Knitwear Design – Scott translated his skills as a formally trained sculptor to knitwear design. His experience with three-dimensional shapes, texture and color led him to experiment with knitting techniques. He made his own yarn by cutting lace fabric into strips and hand-knitting them to create the heavier knits for his coats. From Little Rock, Arkansas, Scott was inspired by Art Deco patterns, metal work, architecture and the androgynous styles from the 1920s. Blue Sky Alpacas, yarn designers and distributors in Minnesota, donated yarn for Scott’s collection. www.blueskyalpacas.com
