Fashion’s Night Out – San Francisco Style!

A Knitwear Demonstration

A Knitwear Demonstration

Last night, San Francisco, along with 249 other cities across the US, participated in Fashion’s Night Out – an annual event designed to support the fashion industry through shopping.

In reality, FNO is essentially clubbing for fashion lovers and the hosted by Neiman Marcus and 7×7 was no exception. Decked out in their swankiest outfits, FNO-goers eyed each other as much as the fashions on display. People traveled in packs or in pairs, chirping and laughing with their friends while clutching giveaways from various stores. At Neiman’s, these included Chocolates by Jerome, PopChips, and Hanky Panky panties with do-it-yourself decoration. There was even a FNO “red carpet” where you could get your picture taken, celebrity style. Underscoring the club atmosphere were DJs spinning dance music throughout the store.

As in years past, Neiman Marcus partnered with AAU to spotlight the work of student designers and some of the specialties of the school, such as tambour beading and silk-screen printing. There were displays of student work in store windows as well as inside the store, allowing customers to see (and touch!) the designs up close – nubby knits of Stephanie Gelot, slick leathers from Holly Smith, and gelatinous textiles of Drew Williams among others.

Although Twitter chatter for the event was relatively quiet, the vibe in the store and on the streets was high energy and excited. Everyone must have been too busy shopping to tweet!

Simon Says: The next person to ask if I had fun on a shoot is gonna get one in the kisser

pheasantsforever

Shooting a fashion editorial is NOT fun. It’s hard work. Ask anyone who does it for a living. Those images you see in the glossies may look effortless but rest assured — the work behind producing them is not.

Last Wednesday and Thursday, a great team shot a story for 180 Magazine on location in Sonoma County. (Exact details are not available, as we don’t want to spoil the story before the issue drops in February).

the-route

From location scouting, model casting, pulling clothes and building looks to the production of travel and accommodation, it all takes work (and lots of it) before shooting even starts.

Once on set, (our first two shots were by the river, the third was in it), we had to negotiate a group of drunk fisherman. They wanted in on the action. One in particular did not get the message while he supped on his 40 oz. I whispered in his ear that the president of the chamber of commerce was on my speed dial and was set to call the cops if he didn’t behave.

180 Magazine Debuts its Fourth Issue, Readers go Wild

The title of this post may have embellished the truth a little bit. They didn’t really go wild for the new issue of 180 Magazine — but people were really excited.

The super-sized issue (it is quite large) did not only get an ovation from the crowd at our Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show (a copy was placed on each seat), but people rushed into our Fashion’s Night Out event and cleaned us out of 200 copies in less than hour!

That Guy is Bob Guccione

The gentleman that was pictured in this week’s Who’s That? Contest is Bob Guccione founder and publisher of the naughty adult mag, Penthouse.

We had a ton of people guess, but Julia was the only one who guessed correctly — so kudos to Julia!

Here is a breakdown of the clues I gave you:

Clue #1: Spin – His son, Bob Guccione Jr. was the editor of Spin magazine.

Clue #2: Vanessa Williams – One issue of Penthouse included unauthorized photos of the actress/singer which caused her to resign as Miss America in 1984.

Clue #3: Sci-Fi – Guccione also created a science fiction magazine called Omni.

And P.S. — Consider this a tiny sneak preview of the next issue of One Eighty magazine.

You’re welcome.
