Patrick McDonald is a Dandy Paper Doll

The famous New York Dandy Patrick McDonald (who is also a front row staple at our New York Fashion Week Show) was recently featured in a book illustrated by Jim Howard titled “Four Famous Dandies” which puts him next to punch-out versions of the dandies of yore Beau Brummell, Oscar Wilde, and the Duke of Windsor.

dandies

This is pretty darn cool! What better way to reincarnate the enjoyment of paper dolls? Who says print is a dying art?

Laura’s Lens: IRL Party with LookBook.nu and Nasty Gal

img_0086

It’s good to know that those who appear so extraordinarily stylish on our computer screens can live up to their reputations as kings and queens of the cloth In Real Life. Cocktails were gobbled, cameras flashed, and the guests spilled out onto the sidewalk - in short, it was a roaring success!

Picture This by GPP: Beards

La Barbe, from the Latin Barba, is a beard in English.

In the 15th Century, King Edward IV of France was also king of England. He tried to impose a tax on beards and nearly lost both crowns.

Later, King Henri III of France (1551-1553) banned beards. His brother Henri IV (1553-1610) permitted them.

Earlier, in the Fourteenth Century a barbe (no, not a Barbie doll) was a linen ‘beard’. Only a queen’s barbe was permitted to cover her chin; a baroness’s barbe had to remain below her chin.

You may have noticed, beards are back, mostly on men.

I must admit, I am a bit bored with beards.

Here are a few suggestions to liven up facial hair:

Another suggestion: a sharp razor.

Downtown Opens in Downtown San Francisco

For all of you students who are in San Francisco (and all of you online students who plan on visiting), you might want to check out a newest addition to the swanky shopping street called Maiden Lane located in the Union Square area.

downtown

Owner Michael Kelter appropriately called his new shopping destination Downtown and it has been causing a buzz as the next hot spot for fashion forward goods — and the fact that it has a lounge and alteration services doesn’t hurt either.

The boutique was recently featured in New York Times’s T Magazine — which makes it even extra cool (click here to read the article). It gets even more bonus points for being housed in a former brothel.
