Chelsea Clinton Wears Vera Wang For Her Wedding

The news of the moment is not the BP oil spill, the controversial white fashion editor at Essence, Madonna’s Material Girl collection at Macy’s or the fact that that the cast of Jersey Shore rang the opening bell at the NYSE yesterday (what was up with that?). The big news is Chelsea Clinton’s wedding — and this big floppy hat:

Okay — the hat isn’t the big news. Everyone is going into convulsions because they found out she’s wearing a Vera Wang dress to do her nuptials to Marc Mezvinsky — her bridesmaids will be wearing Wang too! She was spotted in the floppy hat steppin’ out of Vera Wang’s midtown boutique in New York. Isn’t this news exciting?!

She should just wear that hat to her wedding.

Check out the video for the full story on what could possibly be the wedding of the year:

School of Fashion Students Make their way to Project Runway Season 8

The new season of Project Runway airs tomorrow on Lifetime (It’s the 8th season? Has it really been that long?) and we have some representation on the design/drama-infused show!

prorunalums

Former fashion school student Michael Drummond (pictured above left) and alumna McKell Maddox, BFA Fashion Design, 2005 (obviously, she’s the one on the right) join the ranks of designer hopefuls that will either be “een or owt” (said in a heavy Heidi Klum accent).

And it just so happens that this new is a hot topic of discussion on our Facebook Fan Page.

Check out videos of their casting sessions after the jump.

The World According to Harry: The Journey of the Versace Anti-Hero

When I think of Versace, I think of a long, blonde woman with a radiant solid colored dress.

That is how Donatella Versace has shaped the brand. Perhaps Donatella has a youth obsession and she wants everyone to look like her—but younger. The models on the Versace catwalk somehow look like a better presentation of Donatella herself. Take a look at this image below from Versace Spring 2010 collection.

Elisa Palomino Has a Good Showing in Rome

Elisa Palomino, a guest to the May fashion show (and Simon Ungless’s classmate when he was at St. Martins), has just shown her namesake collection in Rome and here are some photos.

elisa-roma5

Palomino (who also selected six of our students to intern at Diane von Fürstenberg) first made a splash in the fashion industry as the designer behind Moschino’s Cheap & Chic Collections where she developed the whimsical style of their second line. After five years, Elisa Palomino was recruited by John Galliano to work for his own label as well as Dior.

At John Galliano, she was appointed Head of the Studio and during the next eight years helped the fashion house flourish creatively. At Dior, Elisa worked with the “petis mains” at the haute couture ateliers where she helped create real works of art.

Following Galliano, Elisa worked as studio director at Cavalli before moving to New York to become Vice President of Design at Diane von Fürstenberg. Fall 2010 marks the first season of her own label, Elisa Palomino, as well as her debut runway show during New York Fashion Week.

Follow the jump for more pictures and video from when Elisa visited us in May.

Get Ready to Get ‘Mad’

madmen4

If you have been lucky enough to be in a class with Hersha Steinbock or me (Dino-Ray Ramos), you may have been subject to our obsession with Mad Men, the show of mid-century modern style and shady, fabulously damaged characters.

Lucky for us (and you), the show starts it’s fourth season on July 25th and the characterized wardrobe is sure to impress:

Don’t forget to set your DVRs! And if you don’t watch the show, you still have time to plow through three seasons before the premiere on July 25th — and it is worth it.

Sofia Coppola Takes Us ‘Somewhere’

somewhere

Did you enjoy movies by Sofia Coppola? Do you enjoy her style of music and moviemaking? Did you enjoy Lost in Translation and Virgin Suicides? (There’s no need to mention Marie Antoinette.) Most of all, do you enjoy long pauses, meaningful glances and too-cool-for-school movie-making that includes sparse dialogue and indie music?

Well, you’ll probably enjoy her latest movie, Somewhere coming to theaters at the end of the year! Here’s the trailer:

Joan Rivers is ‘A Piece of Work’

joan-rivers-a-piece-of-work-movie-poster

I know what you’re thinking — “Joan Rivers?!” I know all of you are cool art school students and that you are all about your Gagas and Lohans, but come on — Joan was Kathy Griffin before there was Kathy Griffin and considering we have been on this icon kick (and she is an icon — a very loud one, but an icon nonetheless) we figured that the documentary about her titled, A Piece of Work was worth mentioning — and believe us — it’s a really good documentary worth mentioning. Especially if you’re on the prowl for fame.

Check out the trailer and if you’re in San Francisco, it is playing at the Embarcadero Center starting Friday, June 11.
