We’ve told you about President Obama’s Runway to Win campaign initiative, for which 22 designers have created merchandise to raise funds for the 2012 Re-Election Campaign – and now there’s a chance for you to be a part of it, too! Runway to Win is holding a contest, asking supporters to create a design for either a women’s shirt, a unisex shirt, or an oversize tote bag for a chance to have their design produced as part of the collection!
All entries must be submitted by May 1st, and from there a group of finalists will be selected and the public will vote on the winning designs. The top items will be added to the official Runway to Win collection, and the designers will receive a fully produced version of their entry autographed by Anna Wintour!

For today’s edition of Monday Morning Photos, we bring you someone who is not necessarily a fashion icon, but an icon of peace. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is thought to be the descendant of a spiritual leader who has been reborn in order to enlighten others. Though officially he is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, his teachings can be applied universally. Above all, he strives to teach human compassion and works to promote basic human values in the quest for human happiness. Here are a few words of wisdom to keep in mind as you continue your journey through life:
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with President Barack Obama
The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that the does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

Summer is here. Well, in San Francisco, it is pouring with rain and pity the poor tourists shivering in shorts and tank tops.
Enough of fashion — for a while. Let’s get real. And consider princes who turn into frogs (I happen to prefer frogs) and fairytale brides who live happily never after.
Once Upon a Time stories have endings hardly envisaged by Hans Christian Andersen – though the brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm – and Lewis Carroll: (M)alice in Wonderland might be smirking.
Last week I wrote about the Little Mermaid who not only did not get the prince, she lost her fish tail and became a cripple.
Then there’s Fergie.

The last-but-one Royal bride to walk up Westminster Abbey was not invited to William and Catherine’s wedding on April 19th. Poor old Fergie fled to Thailand in shame. Whether or not she could have influenced her girls’ taste in hats is doubtful but however misguided, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, was royally shafted.
