The Model Life of Erin: Iconography Magazine

After all of the planning, traveling and waiting I am pleased to say that we got the cover of Iconography Magazine!

It was a long wait but they finally revealed the cover this month. The June 2010 issue is available now. When I first started modeling, my goal was to be inside of a magazine. I never thought that I would be on the cover of any magazine. Photographer Stephanie Matthews and her team are outstanding. Thanks to everyone who voted.

The Model Life of Erin: School is Out, Modeling is In

Doesn’t everybody feel relieved that the summer is here?

Besides, turning in my last assignments of the year, I had a beauty shoot in San Francisco with Rus Anson focusing on a specific type of lighting technique that casted different shaped shadows on my face and body. The look was a bright red-orange lip with white liner and mascara, topped off with a heavy black brow. I am excited to see how these turn out.

I also had two castings — one was for a Yahoo commercial. I had to act like a teenage girl talking on a video chat with her friend from school. This was not hard to do. I just had to talk about my imaginary prom date and how HOT he was! Considering I haven’t been in high school since 2001, this was quite funny. Luckily, the other model had a sense of humor — so it made it easier.

The second casting of the week was for a photo shoot for Carlton Hair. Carlton Hair is a big account and I’m hoping I book this. It would be a great start to the summer.

And on a final note, I saw a feature in Marin Magazine with my picture from a shoot I did for the clothing line Vagadu. Check it out:

The Model Life of Erin: Inspired by the Spring Show

This weekend I checked out the Spring Show. It was my first time going and I had so much fun! The whole production was outstanding and this year’s collections blew me away. There was a long line to get into the actual tent but it was well worth the wait. It was weird watching a show from the audience, but it was nice to be able to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere and the energy that the designs were bringing.

Every designer had a show-stopping piece. I absolutely loved the lace collection by Amelia Statler (above). The garments looked comfortable, chic and timely – lace seems to be big trend for the spring.

Ghazaleh Khalifeh (above) was another one of my favorites. I absolutely loved the structured, puff-sleeved dress in her collection. The metallic platforms were a great addition as well. Men-inspired looks, use of neon colors, and oxfords with socks set a tone for fashion this summer and inspired me to try new things.

The Model Life of Erin: Rockin’ Out

May is finally here! The semester is wrapping up and I finally finished one of my projects. My accessory turned out fabulous, but I need some energy to get started on this new project!

This week I had a shoot in Oakland with two other models from Look Model Management in San Francisco. The theme of the shoot was “Rock n’ Roll.” We shot on a rooftop of a building at night. The view was amazing! The skyline of San Francisco was in the background along with the beautiful colors of the sky. The hardest part of the shoot was balancing myself on this small table in 4-inch stilettos:

I’m already scared of heights, so it was pretty difficult for me to stand on top of a table on a roof. Nevertheless, I conquered my fear and rocked out! Our outfits were awesome; ripped jeans, sequined tops, silver platforms and the photographer brought electric guitars to use as props. The weather was extremely windy and cold, but I think that it added to the shoot. Can’t wait to see how these images turn out!

The Model Life of Erin: Striking a Pose

I’m almost finished with my accessory for my Product Development course. I just have to get this PowerPoint presentation together. I have to admit I’ve been procrastinating a little, but trust me — it’s for a good reason. I’ve been working on my academic portfolio in hopes to find a good internship/job.

This week, I had a booking with an Academy of Art University illustration class. It was two hours of posing in different positions so that the students could refine their drawing skills –- and these students have skills! It was such an encouraging atmosphere to see young professionals in the making. Working with this class has helped motivate me with my own course work.

I also got word that a series of my pictures from the Los Angeles shoot will be featured in Iconography Magazine! The images are also in a battle for the cover! I’m very grateful and excited to see what happens. I’m finally getting some stunning tearsheets in my book.

A couple weeks ago, I worked with Christian Pollock, a photographer that is signed with my San Francisco agency. He’s a very talented and reliable photographer that always delivers. Here is an image from our shoot:

The Model Life of Erin: Taking a Break in San Diego

This week has been slow with modeling and there have been a couple of job opportunities I had to turn down, because of school and travel expenses. Sometimes commuting to San Francisco can be expensive and time consuming. I have to make sure that the jobs I book or go on casting calls for are really worth it. However, the free time from modeling opened up the opportunity for a short trip to San Diego. I was able to get some quality research done for my Product Development final project. I found the perfect target market a couple hours away in Palm Springs.

Finishing up this semester with all A’s is looking more promising. I just hope that modeling picks up a long with my research with my project.

The Model Life of Erin: Workin’ on My Fitness

This week has been rather quiet for me. I’ve been getting a start on my final project for my Trend Forecasting class – I’m in the process of creating an “ultimate accessory.” May will be here before you know it, so I have to start buying materials and putting this product together!

On the modeling front, there has been some excessive down time with bookings in San Francisco. However, the open schedule has left a lot of room to get some extra workouts in. Fitness is a big part of my life. I try my best to work out four times a week and keep challenging my body with running, lifting and plyometrics. It’s part of the job and it always turns my day around for the best.

I talked to my New York agent about my shoot in Los Angeles; she really thinks that my new photos will end up in this fashion magazine called Iconography. I checked it out and I’m very excited. We also talked about repackaging me in a few months for clients in New York. Hopefully, I get to show you some images soon!

The Model Life of Erin: A Fashion Student’s Dream

School is in session and I am pleased to find out that I have two A’s in some of my most difficult courses yet. I am going to use that positive momentum to finish up the rest of the semester successfully.

blog-4

My shoot in Los Angeles, with photographer Stephanie Matthews, was wonderful and very productive. I met talented and hard-working artists and I believe I have captured some of my strongest images. The most exciting part was taking a peak at the wardrobe. I wore five couture dresses from Beverly Hills-based label Goldsmith & Klein, who designs dresses for Eva Longoria. Words do not describe these dresses – only images!

blog-3

In addition, the make-up, hair, accessories, and shoes flawlessly complimented these creations. I felt like I was in a dream – a fashion student’s dream. A collection of to-die for 5-inch platforms in every color and a unique collection of chunky necklaces were just some of the pieces I wanted to take for my own. Read more…

The Model Life of Erin: Midterms, Macys Bookings and the art of Patiently Waiting

I finally finished my 20-page brand makeover report on Abercrombie & Fitch. Midterms are completed and I have started to pack for my shoot in Los Angeles! I’m looking forward to the sunshine and another opportunity to improve my skills in front of the camera. This could be my chance to land a quality editorial!

In San Francisco, modeling has been picking up and I should be pretty busy for the next few weeks. My agent contacted me with the opportunity to work on a project for Macy’s in Union Square. I like booking the long-term jobs, because I’m able to get to know the client better. A client like Macy’s is a great one to get to know, the relationship could lead to booking more jobs with them.

I’m still focused on building my book with solid images and getting into the South African market. Steadily learning that a huge part of the industry is waiting PATIENTLY! I also received my images from a test shoot in Oakland. Enjoy!
