Fay Xinzhou Liu – BFA Fashion Design student
Stylepoint: Neon and Studs
Neon is a trend that just won’t quite – but we’re not complaining. It’s been seen all over runways the past few season, and with the Cambridge Satchel becoming one of the most popular bags of late, neon has taken over the world of accessories, too. We love how the belt adds just a pop of color! Studs have been ubiquitous as well, on everything from collars and shoes to the highly coveted Valentino Rockstud collection. We love gold spikes coupled with the necklace, adding a bit of edge to the soft look.

Noel Labelle, School of Fashion Design Student
Style Point: Embellishment
It was a trend seen all over the runways, from Dolce & Gabbanna and Prada to Louis Vuitton – the word for Fall 2012 is embellishment. Beading, brocade, and appliquéd baubles stole the show this season. But it is very clear Noel’s look is not a trend – it is something all her own – and just happens to be au courant. It’s true what they say: Fashion students are always ahead of the game.

Melody Chen; Academy 3D Animation Major
Style Point: Fluffy Vests
Fuzzy Wuzzy was certainly one comfortable bear. You can feel the coziness creep in as piled knits fill the stores. Less fancy than fur the piled knits give off a simple laid-back feel, like lying on clouds; Cute, comfortable, conservative.

Tové Torree; Academy Fashion Journalism Major
Style Point: Animal Print shorts
Animal accents always make an outfit fiercer. Leopard especially has grown from tacky fashion to fashion classic; but don’t get too carried away, the best things are always shown in small amounts, as they say; and Tové certainly does the style justice.

Astrid Andrea Orantes; Academy Fashion Design Major
Style Point: Blackout
Black is always in style. It’s clean, coy, professional, and simply chic. Think Chanel or Audrey Hepburn in Funny face. A ‘blackout’ leaves you looking posh, polished, and ready to vogue.

Agathe Guttuhaugen; Acaddemy of Art University – Fashion Design Major
Style Point: Fall Colors
Hot and cold, and then hot and then cold; this weather is just as unpredictable as the instants that come out of my camera. Is it winter or fall? I don’t know, but I’m yearning for the sight of falling leaves dressed in all different shades and colors. Is the city lacking in this aspect? No. You can see these colors in peoples clothing, and feel the crinkling of the leaves in the texture of the fabrics. Soft creams, oranges, and marigolds… Welcome to Fall.

As a fashion design major, inspiration can come from everywhere. I find strangers on the streets the most inspiring; those cool stylish people you see for only one unexpected moment—but why not capture that moment, that style, in that exact instant? Here, every Friday, from now on, I bring you the raw, unedited swag of the San Francisco streets.
Anonymous style @ The Regency Ballroom
Style Point: dark jean vests
This week among the sea of Halloweek concert head-bangers, punk style prevailed. This ‘anti-fashion’ has been more fashionable than ever in the past year; Balmain being the biggest influence on the mass population. Main ingredients? Jean vests, dyed hair, studs galore, and killer attitude. According to these girls, “Punk’s Not Dead”, and won’t be anytime soon.
