Each year we look forward to The Met Gala for two reasons: 1) It means the opening of an amazing new exhibit curated by the folks at the Met’s Costume Institute and 2) Because the red carpet is always amazing. The annual opening night shindig is basically the Oscars of the fashion world, so you know that everyone will be dressed to impress. There were a number of ladies wearing designs by the woman of the evening, Miuccia Prada, whose inventive work makes up half of the exhibition – Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. Our favorite Prada look was worn by Carey Mulligan, whose gold and silver paillette-covered dress glittered beautifully amidst the flash bulbs. We also loved Anna Wintour’s Prada gown that paid homage to the late Schiaparelli with a gold, beaded lobster.

Philip Treacy was born in County Galway in the West of Ireland, and grew up with his parents and seven brothers and sisters across the street from a small church. As a young child, he was inspired by churchgoers in their Sunday best, and began making clothes and hats for his sisters’ dolls.
As a teenager he moved to Dublin to study fashion at the National College of Art & Design, where he made hats to compliment the clothes he designed in his classes. When he had to arrange for an apprenticeship, he chose to spend six weeks with the London hat designer Stephen Jones. He then went on to the Royal College of Art in London, where he pioneered their millinery program. During his time in London, he met Isabella Blow, who took an immediate liking to Treacy and his hats. They shared an affinity for the eccentric, and she asked him to design a hat for her wedding, in keeping with the medieval theme of her dress.
With The Hunger Games hitting theaters tonight, the Jennifer Lawrence craze is at an all time high. We’ve loved this leading lady since her debut in Winter’s Bone - and we’ve been following her red carpet looks since she walked out in that stunning Calvin Klein number at the 2011 Oscars. Jennifer has been wowing fans throughout The Hunger Games press tour, so we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite looks.
Which was your red carpet fave? Tell us in the comments below!

A select number of projects will be presented to the company’s senior design team at the conclusion of the internship.
Women’s Wear Daily asked a few designers to share their original sketches from the Spring 2012 Collections. It’s truly fascinating to look at the sketch, created months before the actual garment, and then see it come to life on the runway. We’re sure that many of you can relate to that feeling!

Catching Up with the former Burberry Intern and current Product Associate for Sweaters at Polo Ralph Lauren
What was your area of study in the School of Fashion?
I studied Knitwear with a focus on Men’s Wear Sweaters
What was your senior collection like?
My collection was about plaid for men’s sweaters in tan and light blue. It was complicated and very time consuming. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to finish all the pieces I wanted to make. I was very excited to have been chosen for the Burberry internship – it was not expected. I remember crying and sweating under the hot lights at the fashion show. Talk about memories.

I’ve been eyeing your recent partnership with the art of visual merchandising — and I love where the collaboration is going. The visual and branding industries are changing forever because of your latest sensory videos, mechanics, 4D store displays, and architectural mapping.
My recent favorite creation you made was to celebrate the launch of Ralph Lauren’s new UK web site. The installation was viewed outside at Ralph Lauren’s new Bond Street and Madison Avenue stores with no screens, glasses, or wires, and a splash of fragrance in the air.
I am extremely inspired by the creativity and believability of the video. (And can’t wait for more luxury designers to catch on – can you imagine a 4D presentation by Vivienne Westwood or Rei Kawakubo?)
