Mass-market retailer Banana Republic has tapped some local talent for their latest collaboration – the boys behind Taylor Stitch. The brand was founded in 2008 by Michael Maher, Barrett Purdum, and Michael Armenta and has gained a cult following with their made-in-SF men’s custom shirts. They’ve created a ready-to-wear capsule collection for the San Francisco-based retailer that will be sold in a shop-within-a-shop at the Banana Republic flagship on Grant Street for the next 18 weeks. You’ll also be able to order their custom made button downs – an experience that Milo Slattery, VP of men’s merchandising at B.R., thinks their customer will love.

In celebration of the new collection, Banana Republic and Taylor Stitch are hosting a launch party at the flagship tonight. Stop by for drinks and hors d’oeures and check out the new digs and new shirts!

A Soiree in Honor of Brad Goreski’s New Book

This past Tuesday, April 24, San Francisco received a visit from the ever so stylish and talented Brad Goreski, from the hit TV Show It’s a Brad, Brad World on Bravo. Having earned his fame as Rachel Zoe’s assistant on the Rachel Zoe Project, this stylist’s career has taken off like wildfire and has proven that he can hold his own independent of his association with Zoe.

Now, Goreski has his own television show, and a fast paced career. So what better way to document his journey than through a book? Born To Be Brad, My Life and My Style, So Far is a documentation of his humble beginnings as the “awkward kid” at school to his transformation into a modern trendsetter.

The Black Fleece boutique on Fillmore Street hosted Goreski’s sophisticated book-signing party. The evening began around 6:30, when fans of all ages started filling in. Bow-tie clad servers kept a fun vibe going by offering white wine, champagne, and delicious hors d’oeuvres. Refinery29 was there snapping pictures of his stylish fans and documenting the event. Before getting in line, you had the opportunity to purchase the book while browsing the boutique’s preppy but sophisticated merchandise.

Macy’s Fashion Incubator San Francisco Launch Party

The inaugural class of Macy’s Fashion Incubator San Francisco showed off their new digs at last night’s launch event. The Fashion Incubator offices and workshop sit on the 7th floor of the Macy’s men’s building – the perfect perch to get those creative juices flowing. Two School of Fashion alums, Bethany Meuleners and Sabah Mansoor Husain, were selected to take part in the year-long mentorship program, which provides the designers with an amazing workspace in the Macy’s offices, as well as crash-courses on everything from the financial aspects of fashion, to production, and media training. The Fashion Incubator program hopes to reinvigorate SF’s fashion industry, which has been on a steady decline for years.

We were lucky enough to tour the designers’ space – which is pretty amazing. Each designer-in-residence, as they’re called, has an office, drawing tables, showroom space, and access to some pretty amazing equipment. It is an amazing opportunity for the young designers to really build their label under the guidance of industry professionals – and we can’ wait to see their progress throughout the year!

San Francisco Fashion Film Festival

A scene from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette starring Kirsten Dunst. Playing on Sunday, April 8th.

This year, San Francisco is getting it’s very own fashion-centric film festival – appropriately named (what else) the San Francisco Fashion Film Festival! The festival, founded by three local fashion bloggers, will present a curated selection of independent, documentary, and dramatic films that provide a new perspective on what it means to be stylish in the cinema. Think classics like Barbarella and Ziegfeld Girl, and new comers like Miss Representation and Marie Antionette. The festival will be held on April 7th and 8th at the Roxie Theater – you can check out the full schedule and buy tickets here!

They are also having a few pre-festival events that you won’t want to miss! A seminar on Disposable Film 101 on Sunday, March 25th and a screening of Falbalas in conjunction with The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk on Friday, April 6th.
