The Met Gala – Red Carpet

Each year we look forward to The Met Gala for two reasons: 1) It means the opening of an amazing new exhibit curated by the folks at the Met’s Costume Institute and 2) Because the red carpet is always amazing. The annual opening night shindig is basically the Oscars of the fashion world, so you know that everyone will be dressed to impress. There were a number of ladies wearing designs by the woman of the evening, Miuccia Prada, whose inventive work makes up half of the exhibition – Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. Our favorite Prada look was worn by Carey Mulligan, whose gold and silver paillette-covered dress glittered beautifully amidst the flash bulbs. We also loved Anna Wintour’s Prada gown that paid homage to the late Schiaparelli with a gold, beaded lobster.

84th Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet Looks

There are two reasons we tune into The Oscars every year: 1. To see who takes home the gold and 2. To see what everyone is wearing. Film’s biggest night is also a major event in the world of fashion, as starlets step out in dresses fresh from the Spring runways or pulled from the vintage archives. We’ve rounded up some of the most talked about looks from last night. Our favorites were Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford (that cape!) and Jessica Chastain in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Who did you think was best dressed? Tell us in the comments below!

Shades of Gold. Cameron Diaz in Gucci, Meryl Streep in Lanvin, Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel, Stacy Kiebler in Marchesa.

All White. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford, Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab, Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji, Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture.

On Online: Jenita Miller

Name: Jenita Miller

Where do you live? Lumberton, NC, USA

Area of study: MFA Fashion Design and Merchandising

Day job / occupation: Devoted Student

What qualities do you most value in others?

Creativity, kindness, sense of humor, someone who has drive and ideas.

Name three of your favorite designers, journalists, blogs, etc:

Sense I’ve been studying fashion this semester, I’ve found love for couture designers, Yves Saint Laurent, Emilio Pucci, Chado Ralph Rucci, Vionnet, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace, and Gucci. My favorite ready-to-wear deigners, Zuhair Murad, Alexandre Vauthier, and Pacco Rabanne so far.

I enjoy shopping at TJX stores and Forever21. I’m into trends, classics, and I love artistic-style clothing such as paint stroke printing, abstract, and geometric printing.

My favorite Youtube casters are BeautyQQ (Shanghai), AModelRecommends (Look-Alike Kate Moss Model), GiannyL (from Paraguay: She can make anything from scratch!), ItsRoseRoma, DulceCandy85, MasqueradeMakeup (Russia), Wen88888 (Worldwide Travelers), and MisfitMassacreMakeup. My favorite blogger so far is Aparment 15 and Lacquerholic.

List a guilty pleasure:

I enjoy reading Harper’s Bazaar. I’ve been a subscriber to Teen Vogue and Vogue. I’m looking to subscribe back to InStyle and try Elle Décor along with People StyleWatch. I hope to find a discount dealer and have more time to look through the magazines.

I am a long-time fan of What Not To Wear, Jerseylicious (StyleNetwork), Selling New York, House Hunters/International, Top Chef, Restaurant Impossible, Food Network, Food Channel. I enjoy watching the Housewives of New York, Atlanta, and Orange County. I enjoy watching show like Peter Perfect (no longer on air) and Tabitha’s Salon Takeover because it inspires me to one day help businesses that are in trouble and could use tweaking. It also informs me of different marketing for small businesses. I really enjoy watching reality shows.

What is your present state of mind?

Right now, I feel I’ve made the best decision by choosing the Academy of Arts University. I have been torn between fashion and interior decorating for a while. I’ve been learning about both apparel and home accessories this semester. I now feel I can combine the two without leaving one out because both are apart of the fashion world and very similar.

Decorating is use of common themes, color schemes, or about a different place in time. Many people are improving their current homes or more into creating a sanctuary at home. Many love to keep looking good with the latest fashions whether they’re going on an extravagant trip or going to the supermarket. And apparel and accessories are about having a certain look and if you have different styles, it’s like who do I want to be today.

Versace for H&M

The time has finally come – the Versace for H&M Collection hits US stores this Saturday, November 19th at 8 AM. One of the most buzzed about high-low collaborations ever, these pieces are sure to go flying off the shelves faster than you can say Donatella. For the capsule collection, Versace took inspiration from their archives, creating pieces in signature Versace prints, bright colors, and leather. If you want to get your hands on this collection, here are few shopping tips:

1. Get there early – there is sure to be a line

2. Know your size at H&M – if you don’t already (where have you been shopping?!), stop by the store before Saturday so that when the day comes, you can grab your size and go

3. Know which pieces you’d like to buy ahead of time, so that once you get in you’ll be able to zero-in on the perfect dress, jacket, pant – whatever items you’re coveting. You can view the entire collection here for ladies and here for men

4. Be nice!! We know that everyone is super excited and wants to get their hands on this fab collection – but don’t let the excitement turn into a fashion frenzy. Stay calm and everyone can leave happy!

Peep some looks from the collection and a video of the runway show below!
